Comfort meets convenience in the 180 FS with portside seats that convert into an adult size lounger, aft jump seats that switch into a full-width sun pad, and a wide-open cockpit that offers plenty of room and storage space. Additional seating is available in the bow, which houses comfortable wrap-around bolsters within reach of drink holders and grab rails. 5. Trailer Boats Magazine's February 2006 issue features the 290 Cruiser (3/30/2006) Excerpts from the Monterey 290 CR boat test in the February, 2006 issue of Trailer Boats Magazine: "Monterey is taking a different approach to the design of its homegrown cruisers by combining influences from European sport yachts with a progressive, clean look." "Cruisers typically are available in conservative hull colors, such as white and off-white. However, Monterey -- taking a cue from the color palette of the Italian and British sport yachts -- includes Caribbean blue and Cabernet along with the conservative but attractive Pearl as hull colors for the 290." "Details say it all. Fenders can be hidden in transom stowage to help ensure a clean look. Likewise, the stylish three-door cabinetry of the cockpit wet bar stows an Igloo cooler. The progressive design of the cockpit makes it perfect for enjoying the sun and entertaining friends." "Monterey breaks with tradition again at the helm, where you'll find a unique arrangement of silver-and-black gauges within a contoured graphite dash. A split double driver's seat features extra-high back support, and the combination of a stylish dash and helm seat helps give the Monterey 290 a sports-car feel for the driver."
  6. Boating Magazine's February 2006 issue features the 234 FSX (3/30/2006) Excerpts from Boating Magazine's February 2006 boat test of the Monterey 234 FSX: "As a car company will offer a deluxe model of its standard car, so goes Monterey with the 234 FSX. It's the same base boat as the 234 FS, but a booming stereo, Corsa Quick and Quiet exhaust, and exclusive graphics package sweeten the pot. The 234 FSX is a great entertainer." "It tracks well, maintaining good stability in turns and at high speeds. It planes in four seconds and hits 30mph in eight seconds -- a good holeshot for towing sports. It holds plane at 2300rpm and 15mph, which makes for good wakeboarding and rough water control."
  7. Power Boating Canada tests the 234 FS in the January/February 2006 issue (3/30/2006) Excerpts from Power Boating Canada's boat test: "Tailor made for wakeboarding, skiing and go-fast cruising, the 234's enviably good looks and strong performance are guaranteed to please." "Consider the seating layout. Typical for a boat of this class, I found a pair of bucket seats with flip up bolsters. You can easily enjoy the ride at top speeds in optimum comfort without hurtling from side to side during aggressive maneuvering. Then, when it's time to serve lunch and socialize, the same buckets swivel 180 degrees to face the U-shape lounge, which wraps neatly around the transom." "Storage space abounds, with hinged seat storage at the bow and a cavernous in-floor ski locker strategically located between the bucket seats. Located aft is a sun deck that easily raises on gas-assisted struts to reveal the engine compartment. The pad extends through the transom cutout significantly amplifying usable seating space."
  8. 290 Cruiser on the cover of Power Boating Canada's 2006 Boat Test Annual (3/30/2006) The editors of Power Boating Canada had this to say about the Monterey 290CR: "Given the Monterey heritage, it comes as no surprise that this new express cruiser is fast, sleek and comfortable." "Maneuvering at cruising speed is smile-on-your-face fun. The boat pirouetted like a danseur, which was partially due to the Volvo Duo Prop drives that are designed to grip water better than conventional drives." "The ambience of the helm station is that of a sport boat. It's decked out with tilt steering and a double-wide captain's chair featuring flip up bolsters -- any size of driver can get comfortable." "Below deck, the cabin is surprisingly spacious and boasts six feet, six inches of headroom. What's more are the luxurious appointments. Galley cabinets are cherry wood mica, lending a warm, glitzy tone."
  9. Go Boating Calls Monterey's 234FSX a "Mighty New Middleweight" (3/30/2006) Excerpts from Go Boating's test of the new Monterey 234FSX: "The new 234's have a large, integrated swim platform that's actually part of the hull mold. This means it's going to be sturdier and it's certainly going to look better than a bolted-on extended swim platform." "In our opinion this boat is ideally suited for the boater who is looking for a sporty midsize runabout and is willing to pay for the quality and class Monterey has built its more than 20-year reputation on." "We jumped to plane in just over 4 seconds and quickly spooled up to a top speed of 51.3 mph at 5,200 rpm. The MX 6.2 MPI MerCruiser has a wide-open-throttle operating range of 4,800 to 5,200 rpm, so we were running right there at the far end of what this engine can deliver." "It was fun to drive and demonstrated wicked potential for watersports, especially if you decide to add the optional wakeboard tower to the equation." "After testing Monterey craft for a number of years we've come to expect great things from this independently-owned Florida-based boat builder. The first few Montereys we got our hands on wowed us, but since then being impressed is simply what we expect."
  10. Monterey Unveils All-New 234FS and 234FSX Models for 2006 (3/30/2006) These stylish sport models measure 24' with the swim platform and pack up to an optional 320hp engine. The 234FS and FSX are ideal for wakeboarding, skiing and towing, and both feature a spacious aft sunpad. The 234 FS and FSX feature a compact, agile frame that comfortably and safely provides room for your entire crew. Dual bucket seats with flip-up bolsters swivel to face the rear wrap-around lounge. The spacious adult-sized bow section also provides hinged seat storage and drink holders in the gunwale, while a huge in-floor ski locker between the helm stations makes access to skis and wakeboards stress-free. The ergonomically-designed helm station features full instrumentation with low-glare night lighting. The sleek appearance is highlighted by fog resistant gauges, backlit weatherproof switches, and black steering wheel with a silver insert. Other amenities include an AM/FM/CD stereo with hand-held remote control mounted securely in a lockable soft-touch glove box, and a 25-quart carry-on cooler. The 234FSX comes standard with additional features such as a custom graphics package, black gunnel molding, a transom shower with pressurized cold water, cockpit table, custom upholstery and a premium Kenwood satellite-ready AM/FM/CD player complete with two amps, two tweeters, four speakers and subwoofer, plus both dash and stern remotes.
  11. Monterey 234 FSX on the April, 2006 cover of Trailer Boats Magazine (3/30/2006) As the featured boat on the April, 2006 cover of Trailer Boats Magazine, the editors had this to say about Monterey's 234: "From curves to straight lines and from rounded shapes to hard angles -- this is the aesthetic transformation that Monterey bowriders continue to make. The "hard edge" look ramps up in 2006 with the addition of the 234 FS to Monterey's Facet Series (FS). It's a look that mirrors what we're seeing in the automotive industry." "Thanks to sharp angles at the gunwales, the 234 is reminiscent of the Cadillac CTX. And the boat's deep hull makes it well suited for big lakes and coastal travel. When we first encountered the 234, its lines promised that kind of safe, 'surrounded-by-vehicle' feeling that you get from riding in a Hummer." "True to this builder's penchant for spicing up its line with sparkling gelcoat colors and options, Monterey not only offers a 234 FS, but also a luxury version -- the 234 FSX -- that pushes the envelope with more luxury features, such as a powerful sound system with sub woofer and amp, and stainless hand rails and ladders for the bow and transom. Capping the 234 FSX's look is a stylish stainless-frame windshield that features a dark tinting on the side, giving this bowrider a distinctive and striking appearance."
  12. Monterey 234 FS on the cover of Lakeland Boating's March 2006 issue (3/30/2006) Lakeland Boating's March 2006 issue features the Monterey 234FS on the cover. Excerpts from the cover story: "Monterey Boats has unveiled another gem in its Facet Series sportboats. The 234 FS is a sleek-looking, agile-performing bowrider ideal for wakeboarding, skiing and towing. Its spacious interior and long list of standards add up to a fun time on the water. The 234 FS is priced to fit a budget, but if you want to go full tilt, the limited-edition 234 FSX comes tricked out with a premium sound system, custom exhaust and upgraded graphics." "The 234 FS/X have a spacious cockpit with a wraparound bench aft, and a flip-up bolster and swivel bucket seats forward behind a curved, automotive-style windshield. Storage compartments are located under the bench cushions. The one forward of the engine compartment holds a removable 25-quart cooler. In the cockpit sole there's a ski locker that actually has a lock. The helm sports a futuristic, high-tech look in matte silver, dark gray and jet black." "Performance and good looks come in a convenient package with the new Monterey 234. Whether you choose the FS or FSX version, you're bound to have good times on the water."
  13. Monterey 290 CR on the cover of the March, 2006 issue of Boaters Digest (3/30/2006) Excerpts from Boaters Digest's feature story of the 290 CR: "Monterey's 290 fits, literally, smack in the middle of the company's big boat lineup. Setting this apart from some other mid-size boats of this category is the 290's beam. Monterey made no concession to trailering, thankfully, and provides the erstwhile owner with a full 10 feet of beam, something that puts the 290 into a category that boats this size rarely strive for, since manufacturers seem to prefer inserting a must-be-trailerable parameter when designing at this size. Monterey didn't and the result is a seaworthy 29 footer with lots of room." "Plenty of luxury touches below, an almost perfectly designed helm station (somebody actually put some thought into this one; there is plenty of room for electronics where you can actually see them)and a lot of very nice standard features."
  14. Boating Magazine's Tech Team tests the Monterey 180 FS (4/3/2006) Excerpts from Boating Magazine's test of the Monterey 180 FS: "The main cockpit (one of the largest here) features a back-to-back sleeper to port and a bucket at the helm. From the driver's perspective, this is one of the few boats where the windshield is high enough to protect you from the wind. The ski locker is generous, with a cushioned mat and a hinged lid." "Once over the hump, the boat could be throttled back and would stay on plane at difficult speeds, such as the 18-to-22mph range favored by wakeboarders. It handled the windblown chop of our test lake with ease and offered some of the best wind protection to driver and passengers." "Open cockpit space allows family to move about without tripping over each other. Stowage nook keeps standard convertible top tucked away when not in use. Flip-up bolsters on both helm and passenger seat. Automatic bilge pump. Only manufacturer to include canvas." "The Monterey 180 FS has one of the roomiest main cockpits, and its combination layout gives you a sleeper seat to port for those who wish to lounge."
  15. Monterey 350 SY featured in Southern Boating's March 2006 issue (4/3/2006) From Southern Boating Magazine's March 2006 issue: "At 37', the new 350 Sport Yacht is Monterey's largest model, and it takes full advantage of its size with a tiered cockpit and roomy cabins that will accommodate up to six adults in comfort. A single step divides the split-level cockpit, and multiple levels of wraparound lounges translates into multiple private areas and ample volume. The upper cockpit has a lounge, wet bar adjacent to the helm accented by an ample helm chair, a stylish instrument panel, and a tilted steering wheel. The lower cockpit features a substantial wraparound lounge; a table can be added for alfresco dining. Cherry wood cabinetry and Granicoat countertops grace the galley below."
  16. 263 EX ranked the best deckboat by Boating Magazine (4/3/2006) Excerpts about the 263 EX from Boating Magazine's 2006 Buyer's Guide: "This boat came with the biggest engine of our test group, 375hp compared to 320hp, and had significantly higher speeds. Like the others, this one had no problem hopping onto plane with little bowrise -- an old deckboat problem builders have finally solved." "Through-hull fittings are all stainless steel. We like the gray glare-preventing dash panel. Pull-up cleats are the beefiest of the group. Best cockpit scuppers of the fleet -- they're recessed and work." "Gotta love the Monterey's sweet price of $54,874. Not much more than the Hurricane but you get a bigger, beefier boat." "What sets it apart? Well, deckboats of this size are best paired with a 375hp package, and its price for the 375 is less than most competitors charge for a 320. So Monterey is the lion of the party."
  17. Boating Magazine calls the 290 Cruiser "the Express Route" (4/3/2006) Excerpts from Boating Magazine's 2006 Buyer's Guide: "The 290 Cruiser delivers, topping out at 47.6mph with twin 270-hp Volvo Penta DuoProp stern drives. It also planes briskly and angles at only 3 degrees throughout the cruising range. Handling is predictable, so you can whip the wheel to delight a tuber following in your wake." "Engine compartment serviceability is top notch. Check the location of the trim tab reservoir. Using backrests in the cockpit and aft berth as filler cushions is a neat, sensible stowage solution. Inside and out, this is one of the most stylish cruisers you'll find."
  18. Motorboating Magazine tests the 234 FS in its February 2006 issue (4/6/2006) Excerpts from Motorboating's test of the 234 FS: "Monterey has put sharp edges on the contours of its new 234 FS bowrider, and the result is crisp, distinctive styling that differentiates it from the pack. This is a crowded market, and one in which watersports-minded buyers appreciate innovative details, such as the 234's aft-opening head compartment, its optional concealed bow ladder, pull-up cleats and docking lights, its bolstered bucket seats and its big aft bench with optional table that stores beneath the dash in a compartment whose door doubles as a block-off to the bow section." "Designed with active owners in mind, the 234 packs plenty of punch and can be set up for any type of watersports. It loves 4200rpm (40mph) in calm water and 3200 (30mph) in the slop. A great-looking tower is available for wakeboarders."
  19. Boating Life Magazine tests the 290 CR in the May, 2006 issue (4/26/2006) Excerpts from Boating Life's boat test of the Monterey 290 CR in its May, 2006 issue: "When we pressed the throttle forward on the Monterey 290 CR and suddenly clocked 50 miles per hour on the GPS, a nagging question surfaced: Is this a sport boat or a cruiser?" "How about calling it one of the sportiest cruisers we've tested? Start with the twin Volvo Penta engines with OS drives. These polymer-surfaced drives resist salt water and run great long after bottom paint has been reapplied to other drives. The dual propellers make it possible to make race-car turns." "When we stepped below we found comfort, not sport. High headroom in the cabin made it comfortable for a 6-footer to stand straight up in the galley/dinette area. Step forward and rounded cushions fill out the V-berth in a stylish way that's also comfortable -- private, too, when bulkhead curtains are closed. Two more people can sleep in the aft berth where there's a convertible sitting area with a curtained bulkhead for separating it from the rest of the living space."
  20. Boatguide Canada features the Monterey 194 FS in its Spring/Summer issue (5/15/2006) Excerpts from Boatguide Canada's review of the Monterey 194 FS: "The Monterey 194 FS, powered by a 5.0 MPI MerCruiser sterndrive, is speedy. Powered by the fuel-injected V8, the boat is on plane quickly, reaching 20mph in 4.47 seconds and 30mph in 10 seconds. Waterskiing, wakeboarding or towing really big tubes or water toys will be no problem at all. Through the entire rpm range, the boat is quiet." "Handling is predictable and solid without being sluggish. The boat slaloms easily and tracks well in turns. It does not drop off plane until under 2300rpm with the low planing speed due in part to the boat's Air Assist Chine design, which adds lift by introducing air to the running surface aft." "Onboard, the 194 FS has a spacious layout in the main cockpit with swivelling helm and companion seats (complete with flip-up bolsters for added visibility during watersports) and a three quarters wide bench seat aft." "Plenty of other features aboard the 194 FS, like its good looks and confident handling, seem to fit easily into the overall design and construction package."
  21. Motorboating Magazine says that Monterey hits the jackpot with a stylish, quick and roomy cruiser (9/1/2006) Excerpts from Motorboating Magazine's September 2006 issue: This beamy family cruiser is built with the space and creature comforts that make it truly livable. ... The 330 has the fit and finish indicative of a detail-conscious builder. ... All told, the 330's accommodations equal those of some 40-foot express cruisers. Abovedecks, the wide-open cockpit was made for owners who like to entertain. ... Monterey has scored a home run with the 330 Sport Yacht. It's spacious, sporty and good-looking, and has a feeling that's close to home.
  22. Boating Life Magazine gives rave reviews to Monterey's new 220 EX Deck Boat (12/1/2006) Excerpts from the November/December 2006 issue of Boating Life Magazine: Space, and easy and enjoyable movement through it, is the hallmark of the 220 EX, an all-new deck boat from Monterey. ... There's clean storage under all passenger seats for toys, refreshments and amenities of all kinds. It's a cinch the gear will be needed: This boat is perfect for everything from fishing to tubing, cruising to skiing. ... Going for a dip in the water was never easier, with boarding ladders at both ends of the boat, and the telescoping, stainless-steel ladder stays concealed within the aft swim platform until needed, while another recessed boarding ladder stows at the front of the bow. ... The 220 EX has dual bucket seats with flip-up bolsters; they swivel so the driver and first mate can pivot to face the aft bench, which converts in seconds to an extended sun island.
  23. Boating Magazine's 2007 Buyer's Guide features the 330 SY on its front cover (1/1/2007) Excerpts from the 2007 Buyer's Guide issue of Boating Magazine: ... The 330 SY has about the best of everything you would expect from an express cruiser -- great luxury, performance, and construction -- plus a refreshing new interior design that will surprise you. ... The 330 SY goes head-to-head with express cruisers from the likes of Formula and Sea Ray. Really. ... I test about 40 boats a year and I rarely see such accountability. When I do, it's only among the best builders of the best boats. Welcome to the big leagues, Monterey.
  24. Lakeland Boating: "That was then. The Monterey 298 SSX SuperSport is now." (3/14/2007) More excerpts from the April, 2007 issue of Lakeland Boating: "The 298 SSX's something extra is what's hidden in the consoles under each side of the walk-through windshield. To starboard, there's a fiberglass-lined head compartment, complete with a mirrored vanity cabinet and a sink with a shower wand. A VacuFlush toilet with a holding tank, indicator gauge and pumpout fitting come standard. But the big surprise is to port in a cleverly concealed cabin that extends aft under the lounge." "The base version of the boat is known as the 298 SS. Monterey's SSX package includes custom graphics, black gunnel molding, stainless steel trim on the windshield, a custom dash and a Kenwood premium stereo package that includes a subwoofer and two amplifiers." "Handling well in turns -- almost like a personal watercraft -- the hull stayed on plane down to 12 mph. That performance makes this one fun boat to drive. And with all the amenities and features, it's one fun boat to be on board."
  25. Motorboating raves about the 214FSC -- the new cuddy version of the popular 214FS introduced for the 2007 model year. (3/14/2007) More excerpts from Motorboating's February 2007 issue: "A comfortable berth, storage and portable toilet reside in the cuddy. Bucket seats and U-shaped seating keep the crowd comfortable; in-floor storage keeps water toys out from under foot."
