  1. What are your winter projects? if you are like me you are anxiously waiting for the cold to go away, but taking advantage of the downtime to get some work done. So what are you doing, how, and post some pics if you have them. So far I have removed the electric/alcohol stove from my '97 262cr. I used the metal box that contained the stove as additional storage for dry goods. The box was spray painted and I dropped in a cabinet liner. It is not as pretty as I would like, so when I have time I think I will line it with Teak that is left over from last winters project ( remove carpet, insert teak). The original cover for the stove is still attached and serves as a countertop and hatch to acres the storage. Other projects include: - replace shower sump pump wiring ( leak from last winter corroded wiring) - replace macerator ( has never worked, and is never used, but it bothers me that it is inop) - install led courtesy lights and install led rope lighting around helm seat - design and install a lift for the helm seat. I am 5'7" and do not like the visibility from the helm when seated. This will also create space for a ac/heat unit. - new power inverter What are you guys up to?
  2. Take a look at www.vectored.com. The owner has a good reputation on some of the other boating forums that I review.
  3. We have recently begun cruising in the Wilmington region. I would like to share some of our experiences. - The Cape Fear River is navigable, but the channel is not marked to the North of Wilmington. The bottom is soft, but proceed with caution. If the depth sounder starts falling below 10 ft, then you are leaving the channel. Castle Hayne is a nice place to launch from as it is fresh water and not as crowded. - The George Restaurant in Riverfront Wilmington has a dock and great food. Stop by. - Joyner Marina is a wonderful facility wit a friendly and helpful staff. They are located near Snow's cut and have a website. - Bald Head Island is a must see. The day and transient slips are very reasonably priced. The restaurant at the marina is delicious. This is our next weekend destination. A three hour visit got us hooked!
  4. When we want to goto a freshwater body we goto Jordan Lake. It is just South of Raleigh, NC. There is a $5 launch fee, and the ramps and parking areas are well maintained. The lake is clean and large enough that you can escape the crowd or anchor with large groups. There are many areas where it is easy to beach the boat with sandy bottoms safe for swimming. There is a small marina with fuel dock, store, and wet slips.
