  2. I currently have Standard Mercruiser controls on a 2004 298SS, I'm looking at a new boat, 2007 298SS same size but this boat has gaffrig controls. Does anyone have experience with both? It looks more difficult to dock and work in forward and reverse. the throttle look like they get in the way of the forward/reverse. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks, Jim
  3. I went to West Marine, they had bungee tie down cord by the foot (in the sail rigging area). It was inexpensive, brought it home cut to length, tied a know, heated ends. Works perfect. Jim
  4. Does anyone know the manufacturing totals of each year. I can barely find any 2007-2010's for sale.
  5. What was the last year for the models above. When did the 328ss start? Thanks. Jim
  6. Mine do the same, I don't see any adjustment. They are only marginally useful. Jim
  7. Do you have a picture of the install? Is this a DIY project? Thanks Jim
  8. How can I tell what gearing I have in my Bravo 3's Thanks Jim
  9. What stock props would come from the factory when the boat was purchased new in my area (Long Island, NY)? Thanks Jim
  10. Thank you for the reply. The speed was from a GPS, I had a survey done on the boat when I purchased it recently, he had diagnostic software hooked up to the engines, at full throttle the tachs indicated 4,400 RPMs and the software showed 4,400 on one motor and 4,410 on the other. I guess I have to find a tech to try and figure the prop situation out. Jim
  11. Thanks Sunrise! Do you know what props you have on the boat?
  12. MOST, Page 1 shows 350 MAG 300 HP motors, page 2 shows 320hp under Boat Specifications and 300hp under Engine specifications. Do you know which one is correct? Jim
  13. The document shows 28P props, my survey shows 24P props, could that be causing the lack of RPM's? Jim
  14. Here is a link to another review, 54 MPH with twin 260's! Boat Test: http://www.boattest.com/boats/boat_video.aspx?ID=200#Test-Result
  15. As stated in the title, I have a 2004 298 SS with a pair of 300hp Mercruiser 350 Mag MPI Horizon's. Every review I read has the boat at mid 50's to low 60's. My friend has a 2007 with a pair of 320 hp mercruiser, I was on that boat with 9 people doing over 60 mph. Boating magazine hit 57.8 mph with 280 hp volvo's. http://www.boatingmag.com/monterey-298-shock-therapy I have Bravo 3 drives and stainless steel 24P props. At WOT and trimmed, it's at 4,400 rpm's. The top speed is 46 MPH on GPS. Why would I be off over 10 mph with 40 more horsepower. Thank you for your help. Jim
  16. I noticed you have a 298, I'm having a problem with the top end speed of mine. Do you know your speed at WOT on GPS? Jim
  17. I think they came with Taylor Made canvas. Maybe contact a dealer and/or taylor made to see if they can give you some measurements of snap locations to determine if it will work. Good luck. Jim
  18. My brother had a similar issue with his Grady White (barely got up on a plane and no top end), His mechanic changed the props and it's like a brand new boat. I don't know the props he started with or ended up with. Good luck, Jim
  19. Mid to upper 50's would be great! Do you have any way of checking the MPH on GPS?
  20. I have read several times that this boat with a pair of 320 hp is a high 50, low 60 mph boat. http://www.montereyboats.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=100&view=&hl=&fromsearch=1 My 2004 with 300 hp Merc's is a high 40 mph boat, turning at 4,300 - 4,400 RPM's. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks, Jim
  21. I need this info too! Thanks.
  22. It's a screw. As a temporary solution, I put in a small piece of a plastic molly and tightened the screw. It held pretty well for now.
