The Revenge 0 Report post Posted January 14, 2012 Hi all and most. Planning a Bahamas trip with my 2006 302 and looking for more accurate fuel usage numbers for trip planning. I have twin Volvo 5.7 Osi's with XDP drives. Anyone have numbers with the 5.7's? I'm guessing between 15gph and 20gph total at cruise 3000 to 3200rpm. Thanks
Rubble33 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2012 The information below is from BoatTEST.com. Jim Top speed for the Monterey 302 Cruiser is 47.0 mph (75.6 kph), burning 39.0 gallons per hour (gph) or 147.62 liters per hour (lph). Best cruise for the Monterey 302 Cruiser is 28.5 mph (45.9 kph), and the boat gets 1.80 miles per gallon (mpg) or 0.77 kilometers per liter (kpl), giving the boat a cruising range of 243 miles (391.07 kilometers). Tested power is 2 x 260-hp MerCruiser 5.7L EFI.

Coco 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2013 Revenge how do you like the 302? looking to move up to a 2005 302 from a 2002 282.
Bigpeat 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2013 Tend to disagree with those numbers. I have a 2005 302Cr with twin 5.0MPI making 260/HP, Bravo lll drives with stainless props. Same HP as the 5.7 in the test. Hold plane at 3000RPM but find best cruise is 3200-3400 trimmed. This will yield a speed between 22-25knots depending on sea conditions. I have a Simrad NSS12 unit with fuel flow meters that shows each motor burning around 9.5-10.3/GPH and 1.0-1.2 NM/gal. (1.5-1.38 miles/gal) Never seen close to 1.8 (1.56 NM/gal) ....EVER. I run full fuel, half water tank, 2-3 passengers and open canvas. Def not the motor as just about everything has been serviced or replaced. Props are original and are 24P. 450Hrs on motor with new plugs, cap, rotor.
Rip5 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2013 Bigpeat is giving you correct real world numbers. Boattest has been known to be off on their numbers many times. The 302 would not get that close to 2.0 mpg at cruise speed. Over 1.0 and under 1.5 is what to expect.
griff 0 Report post Posted September 24, 2013 Hi Revenge: We have a 2007 Bayliner 325 with base 250 HP 2 barrel 350 small blocks and Bravo II. The boat weighs 12K dry and is 35 feet long. Our cruise is at 3500 to 3600 RPM and we use about 20 to 22 gallons per hour at that rate. We can cruise at 3000 RPM, but the boat is much happier at 3600 RPM. Your results may be similar to ours. Good luck! Griff
