Colonel 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2012 I have decided to put a Faria Chesapeake Depth gauge with an airmar shoot through transducer into my 2005 model 180FS. Can anyone advise if the hull aft of the fuel tank is core filled or solid fibre glass. I need to know if I have to remove the upper layer and core material to get to solid GRP underneath. The manual says to place the transducer fwd of the first step but since there is no access, the bilge aft of the tank is the only other candidate.
Colonel 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2012 Unfortunately I decided I couldn't wait for an answer and gave it a go regardless. First step was to bag the transducer in a water filled plastic bag as per the instructions. This proved that the transducer works well. I worked out the 180FS has a 15deg dead rise at that point in the bilge. From this I determined the orientation of the wet box. After mounting the transducer and gauge, I took the boat for a run and got excellent results even at WOT (about 44mph). Lake Macquarrie is not very deep at 12 meters but it held bottom all through.
