2004 282 Engine Removal

Recommended Posts

Looking for 282 owners that have had an engine removed. Need some answers regarding the engine removal process specifically on the 2004 282 CR model boat.

1. Did the generator have to be removed for clearance?

2. How was a hoist & chain attached? To the standard eyes?

3. Besides removing the exhaust risers, cowling and flame arrestor, did the manifolds also have to come off?

4. Any other issues/advice/recommendations?

TIA.

I am also curious about this.  I may soon need to repower my 2005 282, and I can't figure out how the chain can be attached to pull the motors.  Has anyone had a repower done that can explain how they removed the motors?

Thank you.

I have removed both my engines twice - 2004 282 CR, mercruiser 5.0 Mpi.

it´s a major job and a lot of things needs to be removed........

generator, waterheater, floor in compartment at the stern, bracket to switches on exhaust....

then you can use the chains buti strongly rekommend at lift beam or heavy duty crane.
