Trim Tilt motor sensor failure

Recommended Posts

I have a 2011 Monterey 224 FS with mercruiser Alpha one drive.

2 problems:

1. The Trim switch on the throttle will engage both up and down, while going up however, the trim/elevation stops at about 5 degrees and the time hydraulic motor quits.

I feel this may be related to the sensor that senses the the tilt of the motor and disengages the motor at a certain level, or possibly a mechanical problems, trip arms not lubricated inside, or hung up.

I found the port side sensor on the out drive. How do you adjust it? The phillips screws on that piece are coroded and I fear stripping them to remove that sensor and inspect for problems.

2. Another time out the trim motor was stuck on. I though the trim motor might burn up. so I cut the battery power and it stopped. Then I cut the power back on and

the motor again came on and stayed on.

I shut the power again (it turned off) and I took out the 20 amp fuse ( it was pristine ). After having the power off for 2 hours trouble shooting, the trim motor work up and down with trim switch engagement, but still will not go all the way up to trailor position.
