  1. Hello Marty,

The V berth filler cushions are no longer available from the vendor. Most boat owners have success using a local upholstery shop (or cusotm auto detailer). Check with your Monterey dealer, marina or local marine supply stores for subcontractors or a referral.

  2. Hello Dave,

They should fit in snugly, without a problem. Maybe they are not the original screens.

Your 2001 262 Cruiser portlights are a Bomar Industries product and the part number is PORT-G618-28-1-WHT (white plastic ones) or PORT-G618-28-S/S (stainless ones). Contact info is www.pompanette.com or 603-826-5791.

  3. It could be the oil pump...I agree with Marfi that a Mercruiser tech should give it a look as soon as possible. The max rpm range for the 4.3L sterndrive is 4400-4800 so at 4100 you are getting close to max and oil pressure should be at it's best, not dropping.

  4. Hello there ssdsales,

If your ac is a Monterey factory installed unit, it is a Dometic Environmental (Marine Air) product and the part number was #VCD12K/1 115V AIR CONDITIONER COMPLETE.

These self contained units need regular preventative maintenance such as filters cleaned and/or changed, condensation pans and strainers cleaned, a system flush from time to time as well as a regular "check up" by an authorized marine ac specialist to get the most out of their life span. It sounds like yours is in need....

To find out the nearest authorized service center:

Manufacturer contact info is www.dometic.com or Dometic Corporation 2007-09, 2000 N. Andrews Ave. Ext., Pompano Beach, FL 33069 • 954.973.2477

  5. I have a 2002 262, I have an F4 now and was wondering if others have the same prop, I only get a max 4300 rpms under perfect conditions and very little weight in boat, plus I am slow to plane, seems like I am "over-propped"...I am considering moving down to F2 or F3 (or the aluminum version which is D3 or D2), any comments are appreciated.

    Hello 2002 262 So Cal,

What is your engine and outdrive? Where do you normally boat (high altitude or sea level)? Do you know the gear ratio of your outdrive?

  6.

The hours on the boat do not have a bearing on whether or not the engine, outdrive or prop is the original...many are stolen and replaced everyday, some boats have outdrives and props installed for use at high altitude and then sold or used in a sea level area, gears and shim kits sometimes changed out.....etc, etc.

Your Merc tech is the expert on advice of trying the 24's- he does that everyday. He is your best source of help and information.

  7. Hello Sean,

The most common cause is not the gauge ....The speedo hose could be clogged with small debris or algae blocking the flow of water to your speedometer. Also, the pitot could be out of position or damaged.

Check those first visually making certain the pitot's impellor (looks like a small paddle wheel) is clean, in good condition and spins freely when you turn it. The pitot needs to be in the down position, and replace it if it is damaged or broken.

The speedo hose itself might need to be cleaned out where it connects to the pitot. Algae often grows right where that connection is.

  8. Hello Taberz,

What is the model year of the boat and is it the original outdrive from the Monterey factory? Gear ratio of the outdrive is??? Sea level or high altitude boating?

In the photo the drive "down" trim appears to be correct. Installation of the intermediate and drive looks balanced. The rams are closed and the gimble is in the correct position.

Before you install any alterations to the outdrive such as spacers, try using your Mercury tech's recommendation of 24's, (keep an eye on the rpm's). You will sacrifice some top end but gain the out of the hole shot.

Also, your leading edge of the prop looks like it has some nicks and chinks in the photo. It would be a good idea to get that reconditioned.

    BTW, that photo wasn't bad.
