Hello Sophie,
Also on the engine manufacturer websites are recommendations to protect your systems (specific fuel additives, fuel filters, addtional water seperators, etc.). It is a good idea to familiarize yourself with the suggested procedures to protect your engine and follow those recommendations.

Hello lkberry,
The main difference is that the 2001-2002 240 Explorer Sport has a full windshield and the 240 Explorer does not. They also have a different deck layout (seating, etc.) The hull design is the same. It is a great riding deck boat with lots of room for family and friends!

Hello Alan,
That warning label is for the battery charging system (switches to the left of the label). If you are charging the batteries using the shorepower, the battery switch needs to be off. That warning label is there because often a boater has just had to use the parallel position to start the boat. It is a safety label.
Leave your battery switch ON while operating the boat- do not turn it off!
While trickle charging the batteries dockside, turn the battery switch to OFF. No matter what position the battery switch is in, the charging system will still charge the batteries but it is not good to leave the switch ON if the batteries are low or if you are leaving the boat.
Another note- do not change the positon of the battery switch while the engine is running. That can posssibly cause damage to the alternator.

You deserve a "Thanks" yourself Rip5....you are also a big help to the My Monterey community!

Hey there sprint406,
To clean the contacts use Boeshield T-9 Anti Corrosion spray (or a similar type) and follow the specific instructions on the can or packaging.
The relays may need to be changed out so you can start off the season with clean contacts and good connections.

Hello Sunrise 298,
In response to your question about the battery switch use:
1. When starting the boat the previous owner said to turn them ALL on...even the emergency. Then turn the emergency OFF once the boat was running. I forgot to turn the emergency switch ON once and the starboard motor started fine, the port motor did not have enough juice to crank. Is one of my batteries bad or low...or is this normal?
The answer to this is No- do not use the Emergency switch to start the boat unless it is an emergency. That switch is for when you have run the batteries down so low that you cannot start the boat and you are stuck in a "situation". When you turn that switch on it puts the batteries in parallel, combining their power. If your batteries are low it will help you to start the boat and get home. However, if one of your batteries is completely dead, using the Emergency parallel switch will possibly pull the good battery way down making it impossible to start the boat.
Have your batteries load tested as it sounds like one of them might not be any good.
1.1 Is each battery dedicated to starting it's own engine? -Yes, unless the Emergency switch is in the ON position.
2. Reading the manual, it appears that some boats have 3 batteries...does my 298 ss have a third battery somewhere?? Just thinking toward summer, coving out, burning up the battery on stereo and fridge, want to be prepared!
Not likely, your boat was factory equipped with 2 battery trays. In 2005 the recommended battery size was 24 or 27 (depending on options).
3. Can I use an adapter on the shore power cord to plug into a regular 120v outlet on my dock?? The previous owner acted like it was bad to keep the shore power plugged in and charging the batteries all the time...this goes against every other thing I keep maintained and on trickle chargers!
Just like "RSUMRTOY" said- it is fine to leave the shorepower plugged in and the battery charger on trickle charge. When purchasing batteries for your boat, buy the same type (flooded cell, AGM, flooded/maintenance free, etc) for both of them to make sure they can/will charge at the same voltage rate.

Hello Big Puma,
Here are some suggestions from the vinyl manfacturer to remove specific stains. Maple leaves are not listed but you might try starting with method #2:
Cleaning Tip: To determine the method and type of cleaners, the source of the stain should be identified.
Staining Agents. Baby oil, ketchup, chocolate, motor oil, olive
oil, grape juice, urine, blood, hair oil tonic, tea, coffee and
betadine. Use Method 1.
Staining Agents. Eye shadow, crayon and grease.
Use Method 1. If stains remain, use Method 2.
Staining Agents. Tobacco tar (nicotine), permanent felt tip
marker, yellow mustard, lipstick, ballpoint pen and spray paint.
Use Method 1. If stains remain, use Method 2. For remaining
stubborn stains, use Method 3.
The recommended cleaners used in Cleaning Methods 1, 2 and
3 are progressively more aggressive. Often, it is better to begin
with the least aggressive cleaner and move to the next strongest
only if the stain remains. NEVER EXCEED a staining agent’s
recommended cleaner or cleaning method, however.
Method 1: Use one of the following cleaners with a soft cloth or
damp sponge. Rinse area with fresh water then dry with a clean,
lint-free cloth.
• Formula 409® All-Purpose Spray Cleaner
• Fantastik® Spray Cleaner
Method 2: Use a solvent-type cleaner*, such as rubbing alcohol(isopropyl alcohol). Rinse cleaned area with fresh water then dry with a clean, lint-free cloth.
Method 3: Use a strong, active solvent cleaner* diluted in water(70% water/30% solvent cleaner) such as acetone based nail polish remover (acetone/water). Clean with a soft cloth or damp sponge. Stain should be removed with less than six (6) rubs. If the stain persists after six rubs, the stain has set and probably cannot be removed. Rinse cleaned area with fresh water, then dry with a clean,lint-free cloth.
* CAUTION: Some solvents are highly flammable. Exercise proper care in cleaning and notify personnel in area of danger. Wear rubber gloves during all cleaning activities. Use caution working around buttons, threads/stitching, decorative trim or wood as these solvents can cause damage to those areas.

Hello Rip5,
Here are the Monterey part numbers and Taylor Made part numbers for all of the canvas tops. The boot was included in the part number and hopefully Taylor will be able to find the correct boot in their system. Colors were black and blue so I incuded both.
The picture is of a 270CR....not a 282CR.

I hope this gets you what you need.

Hello Sprint406,
Is this a Mercruiser or Volvo Penta outdrive?
-
Hello Alan,
If your 2006 250 Cruiser is pre-wired for a windlass from the factory (option), all wires are installed and tucked up in the anchor locker, helm and engine compartment. The windlass wiring used was 16/3 bonded with color code BRN/YEL/GRN and the windlass was a Lewmar product #SL0060686-PK Sprint 600.
-
Hello Sprint406,
The primary system on your boat are steering cables back to the drive unit. There is a power steering pump from the engine to an actuator which assists your steering. It is the typical steering system used in your size of Cruiser. If it feels excessively difficult to maneuver, have your dealer or marine technician check them for you. Over time (and as a part of preventative maintenance) the steering cables may need lubrication or adjustment.
I hope this helps.

Hello Getaway,
That part number is #DETECTOR-CMD-2M-CO, Fireboy-Xintex, Inc. (616-735-9380) or fireboy-xintex.com. You will have to purchase one through Fireboy-Xintex or any marine supply store as these are no longer a stock item here at the factory. The current detector used in production at this time is part #CMD-4M-FCB and is also a Fireboy product which can also be purchased through your Monterey dealer.
Keep in mind the CO detectors are 12V and react to low battery situations with an intermittent beep........beep........beep. If CO is detected in the cabin it is a constant beep.beep.beep. It is also a good idea to remove the detector when the boat is being stored as they are also sensitive to chemicals and poor air quality. Store it in a ziplock airtight bag or container.

My 2005 Monterey 298 SS did not come with an anchor...or windlass. It does have the chrome anchor mount with the guide wheels up front. I need to know what anchor I should get that will fit and NOT rub the boat?
Do I need to find a chrome one for it to look good? This anchor will actually get used...not posing!
Hello Sunrise 298,
The factory anchor shipped with the 298SS is a Delta #14 Fastset-0057406. You might want to check with other boaters in your area to see what kind they have as well. The type of bottom where you boat (sandy, muddy, rocky) plays a factor in what kind of anchor to use also.

I really need some help here. i have tried two different covers from manufactures that said they would fit but i am now sending the 2nd one back. Surely there is someone out there with a 214FS that has a factory wakeboard tower that has a cover that fits. Please help! i am getting frustrated trying to protect my new to me boat!
Hi Keith,
Full covers that go over the wakeboard tower are not offered as a factory option. The factory cockpit covers snap around the bottom of the tower and over the windshield. They are not for traveling over the road at high speeds. Those can be ordered through any Monterey dealer.
If you are looking for a mooring or storage cover try Westland Canvas as they pattern our boats (www.westlandcovers.com or 480-756-0333). I have heard positive feedback from owners who have used them.

Hello Stumpy,
Unfortunately, the original canvas is no longer available from the vendor. Many boat owners in this situation have success using a local canvas shop. Check with your dealer, marina or marine supply store for a list of sub-contractors or individual recommendations.
