  1. Hello CSea,

It is unlikely that the gauges are the problem. It is rare that all of them would have the same issue at the same time- it sounds like a wire may have come loose or possible low voltage coming into the helm (are your batteries good?). Does the light vary in strength or stay the same? Using the white access panel below the helm, check the wiring harness connections and if possible, use a voltmeter to test the flow.

It would be a good idea to have a marine certified electrician check things out for you if you are unsure of your technical skills- do not guess at any wiring. Often, aftermarket accessories are added such as VHF radio, GPS, fishfinders, etc. and they are wired or grounded incorrectly and can cause a draw on the power flowing into the intsrument cluster. A certified electrician will be able to determine that evrything is properly hooked up.

Phone number to Faria gauges for warranty and tech help is 800-473-2742 web is www.faria-instruments.com. The gauges do have a "Lifetime Limited" warranty.

    Hope this helps!

  2. Hello boatingboy,

The V-Berth mattress cover is still available and can be ordered through your Monterey dealer. However, the original material/color is no longer available from the manufacturer.

You can see the current material colors at our home page in the Cruiser/Sport Yacht collection.

Keep in mind that the new cover will not match the existing color of your bolsters and you may also want to obtain a quote from a local upholstery shop or custom auto detailer to get a better match or coordinating color.

  3. Hello Henrix,

The 1997 Cruiser exterior gelcoat was a Cook Composites Pearl White #954-WA-446. make certain your boat is a 1997 (the hull identification number will end in 97)as Monterey changed gelcoat vendors in 96, 97 and 98!

The original graphics for your boat are no longer available from the vendor. You can select from the current graphics and to see them, go to our home page and click on the Cruiser/Sport Yacht collection.

  4. Hello Heinrich,

The automatic float switch in the shower sump has internal parts made of high density plastic, rubber and metal. Over time, any part on your boat that is exposed to moisture, water, soap, shampoo and other conditions is subject to "growing" mold, scum or other debris just like your shower and basin in your home. It is unlikely that it has corrosion inside...probably just needs cleaning to free it up completely.

As part of your preventative maintenance schedule, check this automatic float switch on a regular basis. Pop off the top of the switch (the cover should have clips holding it in place) and check to see if something has it clogged up- the most common culprit is hair. Spray a little Fantastik, 409 or other gentle cleaner into the body of the switch and let it dry. It may take a couple of cleanings at first to do the job.

  5. Hello mcohen,

The factory installed depth gauge in the 2006 263 Explorer was a Faria, Kronos DS0131 (Monterey part number)and the operating manual is attached. By your description it sounds like the original factory option gauge.

  6. Hello Breezin,

It seems that the White is no longer available (couldn't find it either) but the black is offered by ITC Marine (616-396-1355).

    Web link is http://www.itc-marine.com/portlights.html

The part number is the same, #81810-S. The doglegs are shown in the attached photo...there are 3 on the bottom and 2 on the top. Those are the screws that can loosen over time.

Check to make sure the dimensions are matching your existing portlight before you order.

  7. Hello Farmernick,

It could be the tach itself. It does have a limited lifetime warranty. To troubleshoot the gauge or file a warranty claim contact Faria Instruments at www.faria-instruments.com or call 800-473-2742 (in CT.).

The grey/white wire not plugged into anything (?) does not sound like any factory wiring and could be some retro fitting or creative accessory wiring from a previous owner. The next time you have your engine in for servicing, it would be a good idea to have the tech check that wire out for you.

  8. Hello gfick1,

Unfortunately, the molds and diagrams for the 242 Cruiser extended swim platform were destroyed in a fire in August of 1999. There are several aftermarket companies that manufacture that option and a great place to start your research is at www.swimplatforms.com. We have had positive feedback from other Monterey owners who have purchased products from them. You can also "Google" the words swim platform for other companies as well.

  9. Hello bldsn,

The original vinyl material used in 2001 is no longer available from the vendor. You would have to order all new "skins" for the entire cockpit upholstery on the boat to have a match. Those would then have to be installed over your seat frames and cushions.

You can purchase parts through any Monterey dealer. To find the one closest to you, visit our home page (www.montereyboats.com), click on the dealer locator and enter your zip. We also will drop ship at the dealer's request to help save on freight costs.

  10. Hello Cibola Riverman,

In 2007, the anchor was not a Monterey factory supplied item for the 263 Explorer. You might have to try a couple of different types to find a good fit.

The Delta Fastset #14 (part #0057406) might be a good alternative, depending on the type of river bottom and strength of current that you have.

    I hope this helps...

  11. Hello Mike,

If it is bent, mishapen or has pieces missing it will affect the boat's performance, ride and handling. Depending on the force of impact the drive alignment could have been altered as well. This can cause more damage to the outdrive itself.

To be on the safe side, contact a certified Mercuiser or Volvo Penta technician/mechanic to check things out and give their recommendation.

    www.mercurymarine.com (405-743-6566) or www.volvopenta.com (757-436-5100).

It can happen to anyone...sometimes those rocks just appear out of nowhere!

  12. Hello Kreg,

You can purchase gelcoat "kits" from Mini-Craft, www.minicraft.com (800-282-8244) or Spectrum Color, www.spectrumcolor.com (800-754-5516). You will need your hull identification number when you contact them to obtain the correct color match. Your hull ID begins with the letters "RGF" it is on the starboard side of the swim platform and on your vessel registration, insurance documents, etc.
