  1. Actually, your question is un-answerable with the info you provided. The "best prop" for your boat depends on what you plan to do with the boat.

Just cruising, pulling skiers, tubes or wakeboarder's. There are props suited to each of these requirements, but no one prop will do everything perfectly. The prop that came on your boat is ???? What are you looking for? Better hole shot? Top speed? Slow speed planing ability? What are your current RPM's at WOT ?

Answers to these questions will give us a better idea of what to recommend.

The prop that came with it is - 14.25 x 21 3 blade alum. We can get up to 5400 rpm & 41 mph then it over rev's at WOT and the alarm goes off! We tried a 14 x 23 3 blade alum - dropped to 4000 rpm & 36 mph @ WOT. No over-revving.

Hubby thinks rpm should be around 4600-5000 @ WOT and we should be able to get up to about 50 mph.

We do more crusing than anything - occassional skiing & tubing - so I would say better slow speed planing would be #1.

  2. Hello Munsters,

It is probably due to the torque of the prop/drive combination and the power of the MPI engine.

Here at the factory the standard prop on the 5.0MPI with an Alpha drive (1.62 gear ratio for sea level boating) was a 19 pitch aluminum. That was the Mercury recommendation for optimum cruising and not specifically for watersports. We have no performance test data with the prop you now have on the boat.

If the vibration continues have it checked out by a certified Mercury tech.

On the info above = what is the diameter for the 19 pitch alum prop?

What diameter and pitch would you recommend for the above listed boat - 2006 214FS 5.0L MPI aplha one 1.62 gear ration - in an aluminum 4 blade prop?

  3. Hi michgal2k,

You can order the current cockpit carpet for the 214FS/224FS from any Monterey dealer. To find the one closest to you, please use our dealer locator at our home page www.montereyboats.com. The dealer can quote you price and installation cost. The color is (and has been) a neutral beige/gray mix called Pebble. Right now it is about 2 weeks out on delivery.

Thanks - is it one size fits both? There is no dealer nearby me (49615). Do you happen to know if it can be ordered through a dealer and sent directly to me rather than pay shipping twice? Any idea on cost?

  4. I am wondering if it is possible to add snap in carpet to a 2005 214FS? Any idea what the cost or where I should look?

Also the color is Blue so any idea what color the original color would have been (I don't know if there were choices or just one standard color carpet)

    Thanks!!
