278SSC 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2018 How does everyone maintain their on-board water storage tank? What products are you all using to keep the bacteria under control? Does everyone use RV SFD water hoses to fill? Any other advice anyone has would be greatly appreciated... this is my first boat with water storage. Kidnmeiieh 0 Report post Posted February 5, 2018 I have had water tanks for 12 years...My latest is a Monterey 330sc. I always use a spoonful of drinking water chlorine which I buy at the RV shop, Marina or camping store. We put a spoon every time we fill the 40gal tank...sometimes 2 spoons if it is in a heat wave scenario where we might not be on the boat too much... Note: We never drink on-board boat water!!! Even if you use chlorine! We use it to shower, wash dishes, wash hands...We have friends who use it to boil noodles, but we do not take any chances....plus, to kill off bacteria, you would need to boil for 20 minutes!!! We use bottled water for cooking, drinking and ice-cubes! Much Much Safer!!!! Good luck and hope this helps you with a safe summer! Cheers Fred
