Freedomskeeper 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2009 We have recently begun cruising in the Wilmington region. I would like to share some of our experiences. - The Cape Fear River is navigable, but the channel is not marked to the North of Wilmington. The bottom is soft, but proceed with caution. If the depth sounder starts falling below 10 ft, then you are leaving the channel. Castle Hayne is a nice place to launch from as it is fresh water and not as crowded. - The George Restaurant in Riverfront Wilmington has a dock and great food. Stop by. - Joyner Marina is a wonderful facility wit a friendly and helpful staff. They are located near Snow's cut and have a website. - Bald Head Island is a must see. The day and transient slips are very reasonably priced. The restaurant at the marina is delicious. This is our next weekend destination. A three hour visit got us hooked!
