Plastic Cover on Bow? What is it for?????

Just got my 2006 Monterey 270. Now that she's outta the water and on trailer I noticed a black plastic cover on the bow right below the anchor locker. On the hull. I removed the 6 screws thinking it was an access panel for something.....NOPE, nothing. Why is it there? Totally confused, is this where you install a forward firing pirate cannon?

That is an anchor chafe plate made of ABS and is designed to protect the hull from getting "dinked" by the anchor.
