The MOST 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2007 Boating Life Magazine tests the 290 CR in the May, 2006 issue (4/26/2006) Excerpts from Boating Life's boat test of the Monterey 290 CR in its May, 2006 issue: "When we pressed the throttle forward on the Monterey 290 CR and suddenly clocked 50 miles per hour on the GPS, a nagging question surfaced: Is this a sport boat or a cruiser?" "How about calling it one of the sportiest cruisers we've tested? Start with the twin Volvo Penta engines with OS drives. These polymer-surfaced drives resist salt water and run great long after bottom paint has been reapplied to other drives. The dual propellers make it possible to make race-car turns." "When we stepped below we found comfort, not sport. High headroom in the cabin made it comfortable for a 6-footer to stand straight up in the galley/dinette area. Step forward and rounded cushions fill out the V-berth in a stylish way that's also comfortable -- private, too, when bulkhead curtains are closed. Two more people can sleep in the aft berth where there's a convertible sitting area with a curtained bulkhead for separating it from the rest of the living space."
