J Escape II 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2016 I have purchased an extended swim platform and intend to install it myself. The platform supplier instructions are to mount it using lag screws in the top of the integrated platform and into the lower transom surface for the knee braces. My first thought was to use through bolts and washers/nuts wherever possible but I can't really get to the inside of the hull. Has anyone mounted a swim platform with only lag screws? I plan to seal the holes and around the screws with 3m 5200, but I am worried the screws will pull out eventually.
Rip5 0 Report post Posted February 25, 2016 I would not use just lag screws for the reason you mention. Thru bolt with backing plates would be best.
Boomerang 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2016 I have a 1995 296 and like you have considered an extended swim platform.. Advise you consider the integrated stainless swim ladder and its cover on the port side of the existing platform. To install the extended platform you couldn't use lag screws in that area. After looking at this I decided not to go with the extension.
