milligan 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2016 I have a Monterrey 280 SCR with two carbon monoxide detectors, one in the salon, and one in the main bunk. They both go off at any time, even when the boat is not running. They went off yesterday when the boat had been sitting idle for 30 days. Any suggestions on what might be doing this. The are hard wired - no battery.
Tommyandbeth 0 Report post Posted May 3, 2016 Possibly low battery or take the cap off then unplug then re plug to see if that helps.
tawool 0 Report post Posted May 4, 2016 Might want to blow some air through them, could be fine particles causing them to go off. I am not sure if the alarms are hooked together (i.e. if 1 goes off the other sounds as well). If they are not hooked together, seems odd that they both would go off. Tommyandbeth 0 Report post Posted May 4, 2016 Also it's possible your boat batteries are emitting sulfuric gas.
Bob 0 Report post Posted May 4, 2016 I have a 2009 280 SCR and had the same issue. I discovered the CO detectors have approximately a 5 year life. After 5 years they will begin beeping intermittently & then on a more consistent level. They need to be replaced. They are readily available from iboats.com and Defender Marine.
