  1. I'm wanting to upgrade my stereo in the 298 SS. The stereo is in the cabin on the port side. Can anyone tell me where to fish the wires over to the starboard side? I'm wanting to add some speakers in the arch so I can here it while underway. Also probably an amp and perhaps a sub and amp. Also, is there any way to gain more access behind the woodgrain panel where the breakers and stereo are mounted? Can the lounger above it (in the open bow) be removed somehow? None of the wires seem to have much slack. There is a padded cover that runs the length of the wall in the sleeping cabin that seems to have wires behind it...it feels like it will come off, but I didn't pry around on it too much. I thought maybe the plan was to run it toward the back on the port side, then pull the wires over to starboard side in the engine bay. BTW...does the 298 SS have the BEST engine hatch and access EVER!!?? Love that feature!
  2. Different boat, but we just picked up a 2005 298 SS (32' LOA) and could not be happier! This boat gives up nothing to Crownline or Formula in my opinion. The quality of construction and fit & finish are top notch! We had ours out two weeks ago in some 25-35mph winds and a little boat traffic building up some 3-4' waves. The ride is extremely solid. My buddy just bought a 2003 302 Monterey cruiser....same thing...awesome boat!
  3. Okay! That's what I was getting at... I have the yellow shore power cord that came with boat. But I wanted to get an adapter for that yellow cord so i can plug it into my dock outlet...which is a standard 110v grounded outlet. I won't be running anything other than the charger...nothing. So it sounds like this should work?
  4. I've got the boots for my 298ss but have no idea how they work. I got them out and thought I would put the tops up but can't figure out how to use them. I mean it looks like they just boot around each sunshade...but how do they stay against the arch once they're booted up? Obviously I'm new to this boat!
  5. Thanks Guys! So, can I use an adapter on the shore power cord so I can plug it into a standard 120v outlet on my dock? I see some boats have actual shore power stations. And the cord has a different plug on it, so I figured something may not be compatible?
  6. My 2005 298 SS has TWO batteries in the engine compartment. Also, has TWO battery on/off switches and an Emergency Start switch located in walkthrough of the transom. 1. When starting the boat the previous owner said to turn them ALL on...even the emergency. Then turn the emergency OFF once the boat was running. I forgot to turn the emergency switch ON once and the starboard motor started fine, the port motor did not have enough juice to crank. Is one of my batteries bad or low...or is this normal? 1.1 Is each battery dedicated to starting it's own engine? 2. Reading the manual, it appears that some boats have 3 batteries...does my 298 ss have a third battery somewhere?? Just thinking toward summer, coving out, burning up the battery on stereo and fridge, want to be prepared! 3. Can I use an adapter on the shore power cord to plug into a regular 120v outlet on my dock?? The previous owner acted like it was bad to keep the shore power plugged in and charging the batteries all the time...this goes against every other think I keep maintained and on trickle chargers! Thanks for all the help, I'm a new Monterey owner and new to owning a larger Twin engine vessel with all the systems this has.
  7. I had some staining on our white sunpad on the back of a 298ss...the red stain is from the canvas rubbing off on the edge beading and the edge of the seating area. I used 409 and a medium brush and cleaned the whole interior and worked on those red areas a little more. The 409 didn't seem to do much to the red stain, but cleans the grime on everything else well. I then used some Meguiars Lather & Vinyl cleaner and conditioner for boats, just to put some protection on. As I was using it I noticed it was taking off a little dirt as it went. I then worked on the red areas some more and to my surprise it took the majority of it off!! I had to use a little bit on a clean terry cloth towel and rub it in good with a couple of fingers, then add some more on a CLEAN part of the towel...you have to keep turning it to a clean spot. So maybe the 409 softened it up some, I don't know. Just be careful if you use acetone...it will literally take the paint off of stuff instantly, but dilute it and test it somewhere first.
  8. Thanks for the quick info! Greatly appreciated! If my boat does not have a motorized windlass, is the boat still pre wired for it? Are all the wiring harnesses the same from the factory? I'm wondering if the wiring is already there?
  9. My 2005 Monterey 298 SS did not come with an anchor...or windlass. It does have the chrome anchor mount with the guide wheels up front. I need to know what anchor I should get that will fit and NOT rub the boat? Do I need to find a chrome one for it to look good? This anchor will actually get used...not posing!
  10. Taking delivery of a 2005 298 SS in a few weeks. It has a red canvass and a red bimini on the arch. I would like to get a Black bimini. The rest of the canvass is in great shape and I'm okay with the red, but I think it would look better with a black t-top. All the aftermarket places don't seem to go up to this size Monterey on their website. Thanks!
