Fitting carpets ?

Recommended Posts

I just bought a 194 fs ... and a barnd new set of carpets.

However there are no fitted 'studs' either in deck or on the carpets.

2 questions ...

# Anybody fitted these ... any tips ?

# Where can I get the deck & carpet fixings .... in stainless ?

# Do I need any special fitting tool ?

You will need a snap tool to install the snaps in the carpet. You can get one at West Marine. Or any Marine store .

For the male part of the snap, you just need to drill holes in the deck where you want snaps, and screw the snaps in.

Make sure you seal each hole you drill with Mildew Resistant 3M silicone, or you could use 4200 I suppose.

Male snaps can also be bought at West Marine or any marine store. Sailrite (link below) is a great source for all fasteners.

I could count mine on our 204FS for you, but it's in storage. The "poppers"/snaps are cheap, just buy a bag of them, you may need to replace some oneday anyway.

That looks about right to me. You dont want them around the entire surface area anyways. Mostly one in each corner, then maybe one or two on the longer runs so that the carpet does not come up in those areas. (two more in bow section, and two more in the cabin area between seats and stern.)
If you were to only put them where the red marks are NOW, you would be ok too.

Not the best picture, but you can see many of the snaps and their location on this pic of our 204FS.
